Is your dental practice website doing all that it could be to attract new patients and get them in the door? Website trends change rapidly, so if your website looks the same as it did a few years ago, it’s probably time to make a few changes. Fortunately, you don’t have to do a full-on makeover to get better results from your website. The following quick and easy website tweaks will help your site get more attention and bring in more new patients.

Showcase your patient reviews

Did you know 50% of consumers visit local businesses after reading good reviews? Positive patient reviews can really drive traffic to your practice. With Lighthouse 360 you can automatically collect and post reviews from your satisfied patients to top review sites like Yelp. You also get your own page on where you can showcase reviews and help boost your practice’s rank in search results.

Put your contact information up top

You’d be surprised how many businesses don't put their contact information where it’s easy to find. Don’t make prospective patients scroll and scroll to find your phone number! Your practice address, phone number and email address should be at the top of every page of your website so prospective patients can’t miss it. (You can also include a “Contact Us” form for those patients who’d rather have you contact them. You never know how patients will want to interact.)

Encourage email signups

Do you have a patient newsletter? I hope so, because email marketing is still one of the most effective marketing tactics around. Lighthouse 360 makes it easy to create a newsletter using professionally designed templates and send them to patients using targeted lists. You can target newsletters to millennials, families and more. Whether you’ve got a newsletter or you’re just planning one, get more patients to sign up for it by putting the signup request prominently on your home page where patients can see it without scrolling down. You can also use a popup to ask patients to sign up (just keep it minimal so it doesn’t cover up your whole website and drive patients away).

Feature photos of your team

Photos make your website more appealing to potential patients. They can also help improve your search engine ranking if you use targeted search keywords as tags for your photos. Instead of stock photos, though, be sure to use professional photos of your dentists, hygienists, front desk employees and office staff. People want to see who’s going to be taking care of them, and a warm, friendly image will help get more patients in your door. Update your photos from time to time to keep your site current. It’s easy to upload photos and create photo galleries on your website with Lighthouse 360’s photo widget (bonus: you can upload photos to Facebook right from the Lighthouse 360 portal, too).

Add landing pages for online ad campaigns

If you run an online ad for a special on teeth whitening, does the ad take the user to your website home page? If they have to search around your site for that teeth whitening special, they might give up (and be frustrated with your practice) instead of calling for an appointment. Creating a specific landing page for each product or service you advertise helps ensure prospective patients go to the right place to take action.

Promote a special offer on your home page

Many dentists offer discounts for first-time patients. This can be an appealing offer to add to your home page to motivate new patients to visit your office. Keep it brief and enticing, with a clear call to action: “$89 New Patient Exam Including X-Rays. Schedule Your Appointment Today!”

Check your website speed

If your website hasn’t been updated in a while, it could be loading slowly due to large photos and images. It’s always a good idea to check your website loading speed regularly, because 1) slow-loading pages drive away potential patients and 2) slow-loading pages drive down your search ranking. Google’s PageSpeed Insights lets you check how quickly a page on your site loads and then offers suggestions for simple things you can do to make it faster.

Improve your SEO

Search engine optimization is important to ensure your website shows up when potential patients search for dentists in your area. You can use Google’s Keyword Planner to find keywords to use for SEO. Look for keywords that a lot of people search for but that have little competition. Using these in your website content and tags will help boost your online presence. Don’t forget to include geographic keywords related to your city or neighborhood since people generally search for dentists in their local area.
